Simplifying HVAC for the Everyday Homeowner

Simplifying HVAC for the Everyday Homeowner

The Challenge

Daikin needed a complete website redesign to serve three very different audiences: homeowners trying to solve comfort problems, contractors looking for product specs, and people researching HVAC options. The tricky part? They have a massive product catalog across heating, cooling, air quality, and smart home tech. I needed to build a design system that could handle all of this without feeling overwhelming.

Building the Experience

I created a full design system from the ground up, including navigation, buttons, product cards, and form layouts. Instead of organizing by products, I structured the site around what users actually need: "Replacing Soon," "Energy Savings," "Comfort Issues," and "Home Renovations." This meant anyone could find solutions, whether they knew HVAC or not. I designed the mega-menu navigation to handle deep product categories without overwhelming users, ensured responsive design across all devices, and built micro-interactions that guide people naturally through the site.

Throughout the design, I prioritized clarity and trust with clean typography, a solid color system, and strategic use of video and illustration to make technical content feel approachable.

Accessibility was built in from the start with WCAG 2.2 compliance, accessible form patterns, and a site that works for everyone. The homepage "Solutions" cards became the narrative anchor for the whole experience, each showing a real homeowner scenario so visitors could instantly see themselves in it. Users spend an average of 9 minutes and 42 seconds exploring the site, visiting nearly 4 pages per session. The work earned a Gold Award at the 2025 MARCOM Awards, recognizing the site's effectiveness and design excellence.
